GC Chaturvedi assumes charge as new Petroleum Secretary

Chaturvedi is an IAS officer of UP Cadre
UP Cadre IAS officer of 1977 batch GC Chaturvedi on Wednesday assumed charge as new Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He succeeds S. Sundareshan.

Chaturvedi is a man of wide experience holding important for-folios both in Central Govt and in his Cadre i.e. Uttar Pradesh Govt. He was Spl director General in the Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games since 26-04-2010 till his present appointment. Earlier, Chaturvedi was Additional Secretary, Department of Financial Services in the Union Finance Ministry from 05-05-2009.

He held crucial post of Mission Director and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of health and Family Welfare in–Charge of the National Rural Health Mission, the post which Chaturvedi held as joint Secretary prior to his promotion, since July 2007.

He also has over four years’ experience of working as Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Banking and Insurance in the Union finance Ministry.

G C Chaturvedi has to his credit holding charge of several important Departments in his Cadre (UP). This include, working as Secretary, Department of Family Welfare, CEO, Greater NOIDA and Secretary to CM (positions he held at JS level). He also served other departments like Home, finance/Revenue, Industries, Personnel etc at various levels.

Born on 17-01.1953, Chaturvedi is a first-class Post Graduation degree holder in Physics and did his MSc in (social policy) from London School of Economics. He has received training in different aspects of management and administration. These include human resource development, energy and environment, information technology & E-governance, administrative law, etc.
