Deadly pandemic Swine Flu has claimed more than five hundred lives in the country so far. H1N1 Virus has claimed 523 lives in India as per the data released by union health ministry in New Delhi on Sunday.
Maharashtra is still the worst affected state accounting for 213 deaths so far due to the disease. India's IT state Karnataka is the second most affected with 118 deaths so far. 49 deaths have been reported from Andhra Pradesh and 44 from Gujarat. National capital Delhi has reported only 19 deaths so far.
The Health Ministry said in a statement that three deaths have been reported on Sunday due to the disease - two from the worst affected state Maharashtra and one from Kerala.
The Ministry also said that 161 new cases of the disease have been confirmed on Sunday. Only three patients had foreign travel history and rests are indigenous cases.
As per the the government record samples of 79272 persons have been tested for Influenza A H1N1 in government laboratories and a few private Laboratories across the country. And 19.4 per cent or total 15,411 cases have been found positive.
Last week the union health minister Gulam Nabi Azad claimed that due to pro active measures taken by the central government the spread of disease has been contained throughout the country.
