Assembly election in Jharkhand has been announced. The elections will be held in five phases. The first phase will be held on the 27th of next month, the second phase on the 2nd of December, the third phase 8th December, fourth on 12th of December, and the fifth and the final phase on the 18th of December.

The counting of votes will be held on the 23rd of December. Announcing this Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Navin Chawla said that the model code of conduct comes into effect with the announcement of the schedule.

Jharkhand was placed under President's rule on the 19th of January this year and its assembly was placed under suspended animation. This followed the quitting of JMM President Shibu Soren from the Chief Minister’s post and no party or alliance had staked the claim to form the government. Yesterday the cabinet had recommended the dissolution of the assembly to the President.
