Education must be based on the premise of quality and equity: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said on Wednesday that his governmetn is to provide quality education to every child specially those belonging to the unprivileged sections of the society.
Speaking at a function to mark the national education day in New Delhi he said that a system of education built on the premises of quality and equity is central to India's rapid progress as a modern and dynamic society.
The Prime Minister also emphassised on the need for having good teachers for imparting quality education. He said that there is difficulty in getting top level professors and lecturers in the newly created institutions of higher education.
He said that the realization of Right to Education does not merely depend on expansion of educational infrastructure but the availability of trained teachers with commitment to their profession.
He said that an additional million teachers will be required to implement the act on Right to Education. He said that the celebrations of Maulana Azad’s anniversary are befitting tribute to one of our great leaders.
