Common Core Curriculum in Science and Maths: Sibal
The Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) has unanimously agreed for implementing a common curriculum for Science and Mathematics at senior secondary level by 2011.

The school boards participated in the meeting also decided to work towards a Common Entrance Test for admission entrance for engineering and medicines by 2013.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal told media that the move is aimed at bringing uniformity in the education system across the country.

He said the government is considering a common entrance test for admission into engineering, medical and commerce courses from 2013.

Mr. Sibal said that it will streamline the admission process and relieve the students from attempting multiple tests in various states.

He said that having the uniform core curriculum in Science and Mathematics at Seniour Secondary level across the country will standardize the knowledge of students and pave the way for a Common Admission Test to determine the relative merits of students.

COBSE informed that it has prepared a core-curriculum for senior secondary classes in Science and Mathematics subjects and for Commerce the same will be developed in next three months.

Govt plans to set up a task force to formulate the modalities for this common entrance examination which is most likely to include two components – subject knowledge test and aptitude test.
