China bans soldiers from blogging
China has imposed a ban on its 2.3 million soldiers from using Internet blogging. According to the state media reports, a new regulation prohibits the People's Liberation Army (PLA) from creating websites or blogs, citing confidentiality concerns.
The directive, which went into effect on 15 June, also banned military employees from placing job-hunting or lonely hearts advertisements in the media.
The official Xinhua news agency says that China operates vast Internet censorship, dubbed the "great firewall of China". Websites/Portals/Search Enginges deemed sensitive by the government are routinely blocked.
China's censorship of Google results recently made headlines across the world prompting the US based company to announce that it would stop the practice of filtering material sensitive to Chinese authorities in its search results.
