Centre mulls a special law to deal with honour killings

The union government has decided to set up a group of ministers GoM to consider amendments in the existing laws to deal with the honour killings across the country. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Thursday.
The information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni said that the views of the state governments will also be taken in to account on the issue. Ambika Soni said that the government wants to bring in the amendments in the IPC and CRPC to bring the honour killings effectively under the law of the land.
Ambika Soni said that the amendments will be brought before the Parliament in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
Later the Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram also said that there is no question of any delay and the consultations will be completed before the monsoon session of Parliament.
