Govt. favour CBI inquiry in Orissa coal scam: Coal Minister
Centre on Wednesday favoured a CBI inquiry into the multi-crore coal scam in Orissa. Union coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said in Bhubaneshwar that if the state government recommends a CBI inquiry into the matter the union government will facilitate it.
Mr. Jaiswal said that the Orissa government must ensure an impartial and independent probe into the coal scam and the investigation should be taken to its logical end. He was talking to reporters after meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the capital.
Orissa's anti-corruption vigilance wing is probing the irregularities. Mr Jaiswal said, it is the duty of the state government to act tough as irregularities took place during distribution at Orissa Small Industries Corporation and Orissa Consumer Cooperative Federation, causing loss to the state.
The union minister also met and interacted with the Congress MLAs staging a sit-in in the Assembly premises demanding removal of two ministers allegedly involved in the linkage coal scam.
