Cabinet extends the term of the 13th Finance Commission

The Union cabinet on Thursday gave its approval for extending the term of 13th Finance Commission up to 1st January, 2010. The commission requested the government to extend its tenure.

The commission said in its plea that due to postponement of some State visits because of the recently held general elections and elections of certain State assemblies resulting in delay in the presentation of the union budget.

The Cabinet has requested the commission to submit submit its Report by the end of this year so that Government’s could include its recommendation in the budget for 2010-11.

The government said that the recommendation of 13th finance commission would cover the period of five years beginning from April 01, 2010.
