CCS discussed the situation in Kashmir
The Cabinet Committee on Security met on Sunday night and took stock of situation in Kashmir valley. The meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. This was the second time in less than a month that the CCS is discussing the situation.
The views of the political parties and security agencies are believed to have been discussed besides the proposal of state Chief Minister Omar Abduallah for beginning an internal dialogue with all shades of opinion.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A K Antony and other senior officials from Home and Defence Ministries attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, two persons were killed and several others injured after security forces were forced to open fire on stone pelters in Pampore, who set ablaze a government office and a police vehicle. In another incident in nearby Khrew area, security forces had to open fire when angry protesters attacked a police post.
A woman died in the incident while twelve others got injured. Curfew continues in several trouble hit towns of the valley and the situation is tense. The protesters have blocked Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at several places.
