Tough measures against honour killings needed: CPM
The largest communist party in the country - CPM - has called for the enactment of a comprehensive and tough law against the crime of honour killings in the country. Expressing deep concern over the continuing phenomenon of such killings, the Party's Polit Bureau demanded firm action against those who are responsible for honour killings.
CPM also blamed UPA government for spiraling rise in the prices of essential commodities. The party concluded a two day meeting in the capital on Sunday.
CPM also censured the government's stubborn refusal to reconsider the decision to roll back the increase in the prices of petroleum products.
The party appealed to all sections of the people to join the day-long strike on Monday to protest against the price rise.
The party said in a statement that the Polit Bureau endorsed the decision of the left parties to conduct an extensive campaign on the demands for a comprehensive food security legislation.
