CBI has launched a search for Amit Shah, who resigned as Gujarat Minister of State for Home after being charged with murder and extortion in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. Shah and two other accused in the 2005 fake-encounter case -Ajay Patel and Yashpal Chudasama of ADC Bank have gone underground to avoid the arrest.
CBI confirmed that all three are key accused in the fake encounter and search is on to arrest them. The 46-year-old BJP leader and a close aide of Chief Minister Narendra Modi was exploring legal options after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Special CBI Court on Friday.
The charge sheet filed by CBI has named Shah as a key accused along with IPS officers DIG Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian, MN Dinesh and Abhay Chudasama. Total 15 accused have been named in the charge sheet filed by CBI in this case. According to the charge sheet, Shah had entrusted the task of eliminating Sohrabuddin to Vanzara, Pandian and Chudasama.
Sohrabuddin- an alleged gangster and extortionist was killed in an encounter -outskirts of Ahmedabad on 26 November 2005. The CBI is conducting a fresh probe into the case on the directives of Supreme Court.
