Custom Superintendent arrested for taking bribe
|
India's premier anti corruption agency - Central Bureau of Investigation - has arrested a Superintendent working in the Office of Director General of Central Excise & Customs (Intelligence), Pune for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.1,09,68,500 from a Steel businessman of Jalana. The businessman was also arrested for giving the bribe.
CBI said in a statement, "A case was registered U/s 7 & 12 of P.C.Act, 1988 on an information to the effect that a businessman running steel business was coming to Pune to hand over the bribe of Rs.One Crore to the Superintendent working in the office of Director General of Central Excise & Customs(Intelligence), Pune for evading excise duty."
CBI laid a trap and the Superintendent was arrested while accepting Rs.1,09,68,500/- as bribe from the businessman. The bribe giver businessman was also arrested.
Searches conducted at the residence of the accused Superintendent led to the recovery of cash Rs.6,37,535; 800 US Dollars; skin of deer and documents relating to purchase of land & flats.
Both the accused persons were produced before the Special Judge, Pune yesterday and were remanded to three days police custody.
