BJP-JMM staked claim to form the govt. in Jharkhand
Bharatiya Janata Party with the support of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, All Jharkhand Student Union, JD(U) and two Independent MLAs, once again staked claim to form a government in Jharkhand with Arjun Munda as the next Chief Minister.
Governor M.O.H Farook is to send a report to the union home ministry on Wednesday on the political situation in the state and the BJP's claim. Local media reports that Governor Mr. Farook has consulted legal experts over the issue.
Jharkhand is under president's rule since June 2 this year.
Earlier, BJP legislature party leader Arjun Munda, accompanied by state party president Raghubar Das, JMM legislature party leader Hemant Soren and All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) legislature party leader Sudesh Mahto met the Governor and presented him a list of 45 legislators supporting him in the state Assembly of 81 members.
In a related development, earlier in the day, State BJP elected Arjun Munda as its legislature party leader after Raghubar Das resigned from the post.
In New Delhi, the top brass of the Congress also discussed the evolving political situation in Jharkhand which is currently under President rule.
According to sources, the centre will go by the Governor's recommendations.
