BHEL bags Rs. 2,000 crore contract for power project in Yemen

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) said it has bagged single largest order for a gas turbine-based power plant from the Republic of Yemen.
The order worth US$436 million has been won in the face of stiff international competition from leading companies from Russia, Korea and Saudi Arabia among others, through International Competitive Bidding (ICB), the Company said.
The contract signing ceremony between the two sides took place in the office of the Prime Minister of of Yemen in the presence of a host of dignitaries including the Indian Ambassador to Yemen and several Ministers of Yemen.
''This is the largest value order secured by BHEL in the international market for a gas turbine-based power plant and is a major breakthrough for BHEL in the Yemeni power market,'' an official release said.
The project is financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the Saudi Fund for Development and the Government of Yemen.
By participating in the infrastructure sector of Yemen, BHEL aims to catalyse industrialisation in Yemen, thereby enabling social development in the country, it said.
