Australia today reiterated its commitment to safety and security of Indian students staying there. This was stated by Minister for overseas Indian Affairs Mr Vayalar Ravi after a meeting with the visiting Australian minister for Immigration and Citizenship Chris Evans in New Delhi today. He said there will be no laxity on that front.
Regretting the terrrible incidents involving the Indian students in the past, the Australian minister assured that the Indian community is very much part of their society and that the Australian government is responsible for their well being. Calling the attack on Indian students a criminal behaviour, he said that those responsible will be severly punished.
The minister said that the Indian migrants to Australia contribute to their economy in a major way and they are always welcome. He also appealed to the Indian students studying there to help maintain law and order and said that the attacks were not racial.
