After a sudden departure of Mr. Raghu Menon from the post of CMD of NACIL owing to differences over how to revive the company and plug the gap in revenue. The Government on Friday finally appointed Arvind Jadhav, as a new CMD of NACIL.
Mr. Jadhav has a long association with the Aviation ministry and has served in the minstry in various capacities. He is an IAS officer of Karnatak cader and joined the civil service in 1978. Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The ministry has said that his appointment will be from the date of his taking over charge and for a period of three years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
As an interim measure the ministry has appointed joint secretary Mr. EK Bharat Bhushan as an interim CMD of NACIL till it finds a suitable candidate to replace Mr. Menon.
Differences were cropped between former CMD Mr. Menon and the adminstrative ministry over the falling market share of Air India inspite of a major fleet expansion programme to induct 111 new Boeing and Airbus aircraft over the next few years.
The company has already sought Rs.2,500 crore from the government in the form of equity and soft loan to finance the fleet expansion - 68 aircraft from the US manufacturer and 43 aircraft from the European consortium.
Officials said the merger between Air India and Indian Airlines, with the stated objective of greater operational synergies, has also not been smooth, delaying the carrier's bid to join the Star Alliance, the leading global inter-airline pact.
Mr. Menon may is on the leave right now but a ministry official hinted that he can be considered for the post of head of aviation regulatory authority.
Former Air India Chief V Thulasidas, is also said to be in contention for the top post at the new aviation regulatory authority.
