Arup Roy Choudhury took over as Chairman & Managing Director NTPC limited on Wednesday in New Delhi. Mr. Choudhary is a Civil Engineer from BITS with a Post Graduation in Management from IIT. He started his career in 1979 and worked in prominent Public and Private Sector companies such as RITES, IRCON and DLF etc.

He brings with him vast experience from both private and public sectors and has been rated as an outstanding performer with many 'Firsts' to his credit. He is a strong believer of new paradigm shift in 'Project Implementation by Proactive Approach'.

On joining NTPC Mr. Choudhury in his message to employees said: 'I intend to work together with each one of you to take NTPC to greater heights towards becoming the largest and best power producer in the World, Powering India's Growth. We will endeavour that we recognize, respect and support each other within NTPC at all times but are also recognised, respected and looked up by industry and stakeholders at large.'

Shri Choudhury was earlier CMD, National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), the largest construction Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) of India. He is also elected Chairman of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), an apex professional organisation representing the Central Public Sector Enterprises of India with membership of 198 Enterprises.

He has been conferred with a number of honours for his contribution in the professional arena. His expertise in engineering discipline, particularly in construction industry and managerial competence, has been sought at many national and international forums, where he chaired sessions and presented papers.

Mr. Choudhury became the youngest Chief Executive of a CPSE when he joined as CMD, NBCC in April 2001 at the age of 44 years. He made a complete turn around of NBCC from a sick company referred for disinvestment to a schedule a dividend paying company. Shri Roy Choudhury has been conferred awards by Prime Minister of India for making NBCC as one of the ‘Top Ten Central PSUs’ and the 'Best Turn Around' company.
