All Indian students are welcomed guests of Australia: Kevin Rudd

As expected India has conveyed to Australia his concerns over the safety of the Indian students in that country. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh conveyed this thing very categorically to visiting Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Addressing a joint Press at Hyderabad house in New Delhi Dr. Singh said, "I have asked Prime Minister Rudd to ensure the safety of 80 thousand Indian students studying in Australia."

He also suggested that both the government should institute an annual ministerial meeting between the countries to monitor the safety and security of Indian students in that country.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said that the perpetrators of racial violence will be dealt with the full force under the Australian law.

He said, "Not only Indian students but all the foreign students are welcomed guests of Australia and it is our responsibility to ensure their safety and security while their stay in our country."

He said that various provincial governments are working with the federal governments to ensure that there is a complete end to racial violence.

He said there are close to half a million foreign students in Australia and Indian stands make up for almost twenty percent of all the foreign students.
