Stern action against striking employee leaders
The two day strike of Air India employees has been called off. Air Corporation Employees Union spokesman Vivek Rao made an announcement to this effect in Mumbai this evening. In New Delhi, Secretary General of Air Corporation Employees Union JB Kadiyan announced, after meeting with Chief Labour Commissioner, announced that they have called off the strike immediately.
However, by the time Govt. has already decided to take stern action against striking employees' leaders. Air India management has sacked the 17 union leaders and suspended 15 others. It has also initiated process to derecognize both the striking unions after getting support from Delhi high court.
The Court maintained that their continued strike is causing huge loss to the airline and inconvenience to passengers.
The stern action from the High Court and the management resulted in swift end to the strike. However, it has already caused a lot of inconvenience to passengers of Air India.
Air India offered them bus ride to Varanasi and option to travel to Patna by Rajdhani train.
Many of its passengers missed the visa deadlines to enter into the destination countries – namely in the Gulf region.
