Seniour BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has been appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha following the resignation of veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani. Advani has been appointed the chairman of the newly created Party Parliamentary Board.
Outgoing BJP President Rajnath Singh announced these changes in a press conference in New Delhi after the meeting of the Parliamentary Board on Friday.
Mr. Singh said that the Board had amended the party's constitution to create the new post of the Chairman on Wednesday.
Mr. Advani said he feels both relieved and satisfied and will continue to serve the party in his new role.
Advani's resignation from the post of Leader of Opposition in Loksabha is seen as an end to a chapter in the party’s history.
Lalkrishna Advani led the party in Ram Janmbhoomi Temple movement and played a crucial role in the party’s victory at center.
