The sale of domestic passenger cars recorded a 25 per cent growth over the sale during the previous financial year. Automobile companies sold 1.53 million domestic passenger cars during the financial year 2009-10.
155,600 units were sold during the March 2010. It is a 20 per cent jump over the sale recorded during the same month last year.
Motorcycle fared even better. Their sale recorded a monthly growth of 35.7 per cent during the March over the same period last year.
However, SIAM president Pawan Goenka said that the high growth could be attributed to the low base during the 2008-09 due to the effects of global recession prevalent at that time.
The sales of commercial vehicle rose by 61.16 per cent to 67,362 units in in March.
Total vehicle sales in March climbed to 1.23 million units, up 37.23 per cent from a year earlier.
Growth in sales of passenger and commercial vehicle is considered a good indicator of the economy.
