10 Cr people will be connected by Broadband: Pitroda
The Chief Architect of India's telecom revolution and Information Infrastructure and Innovation Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, Sam Pitroda has said on Wednesday that more than 10 crore people will be connected by broadband connectivity in the country in the next five years.

He said that the government aims to connect two and a half lakh Village Panchayats through broad band in the first phase.

Mr. Pitroda was of the view that this will enable better implementation of various government schemes like NREGA, Education, Health Information and Pension System.

He said that the next revolution will be to use the Telecom, IT and broadband infrastructure to improve education and health sectors in the country.

He informed that the government is building a national knowledge network where 5000 nodes with 10 GB transmission capacity will be connected to all the universities across the country. He said 110 such nodes have already been opertionalised.

However, he cautioned that Cyber Space security is also of a great concern for the government and private businesses as cyber warfare is going to be a reality.

He said that the government is contemplating to develop Indian Fodd Bank on the lines of Global Food Bank Network.
