10 killed, 34 injured in three separate train accidents in Uttar Pradesh

At least ten persons were killed and about 34 injured in three separate accidents involving five passenger trains amid dense fog in Uttar Pradesh this morning.

Gorakhpur bound Bhiwani-Gorakhpur Express hit Allahabad bound Prayagraj Express from rear at Panki station near Kanpur around 9 am in the morning. Both the trains were coming from Delhi and were on the same track.

The last coach of the Prayagraj Express was badly damaged due to the impact of the collision.

GM, North Central Railway, Allahabad Zone, Harishchandra Joshi told media that 7 men and 3 women were killed in the accident. He said that the injured were admitted into various hospitals in Kanpur.

Railway officials said that prima facie it appears that dense fog caused the accident and an inquiry has been ordered into the accident.

In another accident, the Delhi-bound Licchavi Express rammed into the stationary Magadh Express at Sarai Bhopat near Etawah at around Eight this morning.

The driver of the Licchavi Express was seriously injured as the engine of the train collided head on with the Delhi-Islampur Magadh Express in foggy conditions.

In third accident, Faizabad-bound Saryu Express dashed with a tractor trolley near Vishwanathganj Railway Station at an unmanned level-crossing.

The engine of the train got partly damaged in the accident. Two persons got injured in the accident.
Railway minister Mamata Banerjee has announced Ex gratia compensation of Rs. Five lakh to the relatives of deceased persons.
