10 SOG personnel killed in a Land Mine blast triggered by Maoists
Ten security personnel of the elite anti-naxal Special Opersation Group have been killed in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Orissa's Koraput District on Sunday.

This area is some 55 kilometers from the district headquarter and close to Chattisgarh border. It is also close to Andhra Pradesh Border as well and is being considered as a strong hold of Maoists.

Ten other security personnel have sustained serious injuries in the blast. They have admitted to nearby hospitals.

Maoist carried out this attack at Tanginiguda in the district when these Jawans and officers were returning from nearby Malkangiri district after an operation.

The jawans belonged to SOG's road clearing party.

Local Media reported that a brief exchange of fire also took place between the security personnel, however it is not clear whether Maoists sustained any loss in this.

Officials told the media that the Jawans were given clear instructions to not to travel in their vehicles while passing from the Govindapali Ghati area. However, instead of walking down they decided to ride on their vehicles.

Orissa Government has announced Rs. 8 lakh ex-gratia compensation and an insurance sum of Rs. 10 lakh to the families of slain Jawans.
