India and Russia are holding discussions to develop a airborne version of jointly developed supersonic cruise missile Brahmos. The missile would be Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft.
Defence Ministry sources said that talks would be held this month to discuss the issue.
On 30th April, Su-30 MKI crashed over the Pokharan range in Rajasthan after carrying out a routine firing range. After the incident, entire fleet of Sukhoi was grounded and cause behind the accident is being jointly invested by Russian experts from Sukhoi Corporation and Indian experts.
India has sent two of its Su-30 MKIs to Russia where the airframe of the aircraft will be modified to accommodate world's only supersonic cruise missile on the aircraft's under-fuselage. After being fitted on an aircraft, BrahMos will be the only cruise missile with the capability of being launched from land, sea and air. The missile has already been inducted by the army and navy.
