Centre to oppose practice of Triple Talaq in Muslims in Supreme Court

The Centre has decided to oppose the practcie of unilateral Triple Talaq in Indian muslims.

Supreme Court has sought the views of the central government in a case filed by a divorsed Muslim women who approached the apex court against this custom in her community.

A Kolkata based Muslim women approached the Supreme Court after she was divorced over the phone by her husband from Dubai.

The women termed the practice of Triple Talaq in Muslims as violative of her fundamental rights given to her Indian constitution.

As per reports, the government has decided to challenge the practice of Triple Talaq on the ground that it is violative women’s rights.

The Law Ministry will file a consolidated reply on the issue in the apex court before the deadline.

The practice of triple talaq doesn’t exist even in Pakistan or Bangladesh.
