36 new CNG stations in Delhi-NCR dedicated to public

Opening of 36 new CNG outlets in Delhi and NCR will considerably reduce the waiting period at CNG pumps. More than two third of these three dozen CNG pumps are located in Delhi and remaining 11 pumps are located in Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Khurja in Bulandshahar.

Out of these 36 outlets, 30 have been established by Indraprastha Gas Limited at petrol pumps of Indian Oil, BPCL and Hindustan Petroleum.

Haryana City gas opened three new pumps in Gurgaon, GAIL Gas opened 1 gas station in Sonipat, Adani Gas established one station in Faridabad and another one in Khurja in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the CNG dispensing unit at Indian Oil Petrol Pump at Gole Market in New Delhi on Thursday.

Speaking on the occassion, Pradhan said the government was working to build 4 long route CNG corridors to make gas available on long routes and highways.  First corridor is between Delhi to Bareilly via Mathura, Agra and Lucknow. Government is also working on building 3 more CNG corridors between Delhi to Jaipur, Delhi to Chandigarh and Delhi to Haridwar.

Pradhan said these corridors will be operational shortly. After that CNG based vehicles will not face shortage of gas while plying on these routes.

Presently CNG based vehicles have limited range, that is restricted to Delhi and NCR as the gas is not available easily outside NCR.

Pradhan also appreciated oil companies for creating CNG-PNG infrastructure in NCR region. He said these companies are geared for conversion of petrol cars to CNG in Delhi-NCR.

Out of the 1026 CNG stations currently in operation in the country, about 34% are located in Delhi and adjoining NCR towns. Delhi/NCR is having  347 CNG stations of about 77 lakh kg per day CNG dispensing capacity.

Pradhan also informed that the government was trying to increase the availability of CNG in Delhi NCR to 88 lakh kilograms a day from current 77 lakh kilograms. The actual CNG consumption in Delhi/NCR is around 25 lakh kilogram a day.

These 36 stations have added additional 2.3 lakh kilogram distribution capacity per day which will help in reducing the waiting time at CNG pumps.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, CMD GAIL India BC Tripathi, B Ashok, Chairman, Indian Oil, Ashutosh Jindal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Sunita Narain of Cenre for Science & Environment and IGL MD Narendra Kumar was also present on the occasion.
